Can You Make Money from YouTube?

Some of you out there might remember a time when if one of your friends did something stupid, or you saw someone slip on a banana skin you would all have a laugh and then relate the incident verbally to you other friends who would then pass it on and so on and so forth. Well, things have certainly changed since then. The advent of mobile devices has allowed us to record in real time these incidents – both good and bad unfortunately – and then share it not just with our friends but the whole world. This phenomenon is called YouTube and now nothing is secret.

Let’s look at YouTube and put it into perspective. Founded in 2005 and now owned by Google, YouTube has over 1.3 billion users and has over 5 billion views every day. So let’s get to the point of this article. 1.3 billion is a serious customer base and where there are customers there are opportunities to make a bit of money. So, how is it possible to monetize YouTube? Here are some tips as to how you can make money from YouTube.

If your goal is to make money just from uploading videos then you have to bear in mind that you cannot monetize YouTube until you have had 10,000 lifetime hits. It sounds a lot but if you are very creative and your videos go viral then you can expect to pick up between $2 and $4 per 1000 hits. Doesn’t sound a lot but the more uploads you have, the more money you can get.

It’s fair to assume that if you are using the internet to make money then another way to make some cash is to hyperlink your videos to your own personal blog or web site which may already be making you money from advertising or pay per hit. This is easy to do as you just link the title of your video to your particular blog or website.

Finally, another way to monetize YouTube is to promote either your own or another companies products. If you decide to promote somebody else’s products you can become what’s known as an affiliate marketer. Lots of companies offer some quite attractive deals for creative affiliate marketers and they are not just small companies involved. Even the big boys like Amazon are involved in this platform!
